The Inspiration for SallyGators®

“A few years ago, after switching to wearing mostly skirts, even in the winter time, I thought I’d make me a pair of cloth leg warmers. I found fabric I liked, including a nice quilted cotton for lining, made some experimental brown paper patterns, and the rest is history…

If you go to any Native American pow wow, almost all of the women there will be wearing leg warmers with their dresses – or “leggins” as they’re called locally. Like all gaiters, they’re more than a fashion accessory. They were designed for leg protection from Mother Nature, offering the perfect balance of style and substance.

When I first created these leg warmers, I was reminded of a painting by the famous Kiowa and Caddo artist, T.C. Cannon, called, “Grandmother Gestating Father and the Washita River Runs Ribbon-Like.” This beautiful piece of art served as the main inspiration for the design of my SallyGators™collection.

Whether you’re hiking or gardening, these leg warmers offer excellent leg protection. Although you’re more welcome to wear them as a fashion accessory to jazz up your outfit. They come in four different styles, giving you options to find the pair that’s right for you.

I deeply thank the community of people, ideas and creative support that has helped bring this project to where we can hold them in our hands, or for that matter, pull them on like socks!”
